Date and Time

Friday Night Tournament Series

Pinball tournaments starting at 7pm on Friday nights. Come to just one, or to all six!

Series Playoffs

There will be playoffs for the series in Open and B Divisions. 24 Players will advance to Open Playoffs, and another 12 players (restricted to those who have a world pinball player ranking no better than 1000) will be invited to B Division playoffs.

Open playoffs will be held on Saturday, September 26th starting at 1pm.

B Division playoffs will be held on Friday, September 25th starting at 7pm.

Location

Scarlet City Espresso Bar, 3960 Adeline Street, Emeryville, CA.

Cost to Play

Friday night tournaments have a $5 entry fee, plus the cost of games played during the event. There will be no additional entry fee for either of the playoff tournaments.

Format

Friday Evening Tournaments

Format for all Friday qualifying tournaments will be double elimination bracket with best-of-one matches.

These are intended to be casual, beginner-friendly events. We love to see new tournament players and encourage interested pinheads of all skill and experience levels to join us and give it a shot. Meeting other pinball fans is fun no matter how well you play!

Series Rankings

For each Friday night tournament, participating players will be awarded points on a set scale according to their finishing position. (Current standings available here.) Aggregate scores over the course of the series will be used to award playoff spots and to determine final series rankings as submitted to IFPA (for players who do not advance to open playoffs).

Rankings are maintained for the benefit of players who want to come to multiple events, but there is no expectation or requirement that series participants do so. Players are welcome and encouraged to attend only one Friday night event if that's what suits them. (Although we of course hope they'll have so much fun that they just have to come back!)

Series Playoffs

The series will have playoffs in two divisions.

Playoffs in Open Division will be four strikes knockout swiss, and B Division playoffs will be three strikes. Players will be paired with an opponent and play one two-player game on an assigned machine. The player who gets the lower score receives a strike. Once a player has accumulated four (or three, for B division playoffs) strikes, they are out of the tournament. The last player standing is the winner!

Matches for the first round will be drawn randomly. For subsequent rounds, participants will be paired (as much as possible) against players who have the same number of strikes as they do.

Open Division

24 players will be invited to Open Division playoffs on Saturday, September 26th at 1pm. The tournament format will be four strikes knockout swiss.

There are two paths to qualifying for playoffs. The first, second, and third place winners at each Friday night tournament will automatically win a space in the playoffs. The remaining spots will go to the players with the highest aggregate score over the course of the series.

B Division

After the 24 Open Division spots are filled, the next twelve players in the overall series rankings who have a world ranking no better than 1000* will be invited to B Division playoffs on Friday, September 25th at 7pm.

Results from B Division playoffs will not impact overall rankings for the series as reported to IFPA, but there will be awards and cash prizes for winners.

*Eligibility for B Division will be determined by the player's ranking on the date of the first Friday evening tournament they play in.

Current Standings

Players whose names are displayed in orange are eligible to qualify for B Division playoffs. Players with an * following their name have automatically qualified for open playoffs based on finishing in the top three at one of our Friday evening tournaments.
